Potty Training, Day one

Today I started potty-training Laney. I read this AMAZING article that my friend Rachael sent me on Sunday. After reading the article, I was pumped to start potty training Laney, as I had already entertained the idea of potty training her this week. I just needed something to jump start the process.

We have had a VERY successful morning. I bought 26 real deal big girl panties for Laney, in all sizes 2T-4T for this training process, because we will use them all in time, and the 4T's really aren't that big. I did not buy the padded panties, for we are avoiding all crutches. The article I read suggested this. It really makes sense, for I want Laney to feel that yucky, warm feeling of pee-pee running down the legs and puddling at her feet.

This morning we had a Diaper Throw Away Party. I dragged the kitchen trash can into her room and had her help me "throw away" all of her cloth diapers and her disposible diapers. I really didn't throw them away, but will give away or store away the disposible dipes and store away the cloth 100%. Even the hidden ones in the diape bags and in our car. I have to give my UNDIVIDED attention to her. Really, I should not do ANYTHING ELSE but be right there with her. A time or two, I was looking the other direction updating my Facebook status, which takes less than a minute, and she pee-peed. When we hit panty number 20 by 9:00 am, I got a little worried. I sent Hugh to Walmart to buy more, all the while, I threw the first wave of panties into the wash and dryer. Around 9:45, Laney came up to me and said, "I pee-pee!" I had been watching her like a hawk all morning, even with the tiniest drop of pee-pee, I rushed her back, sat her on the potty, praised the craziness out of her and slid on a new pair of panties. Her favorite pair is the one yellow Dora the Explorer panties with the ruffle around the waist. I am going to be emotionally drained by the end of this three-day adventure. The author of the article I read, claimed that I could potty train Laney 100% in three days if I did it her way, which was very do-able. So, I'm claiming it!

Right before her naptime, while I was doubling up her sheets and waterproof pads, Laney was sitting on her floor behind me reading a book. She was getting all excited about the "whale" in her book, so she started to jump up and down and yell "Whale!!" Then she said, "Uh-oh, I pee-pee!!" I turned my head around so fast I could have gotten whip-lash. She started to head for the door and so did I. I grabbed her hand and we started truck'n down the hallway together, me singing her praises, saying "Yeah!' and just going nuts really so that she knew that I was so happy that she "let Mama know when she needed to go pee-pee." I can't TELL you how many times I've said that all morning long. I mean, I say it as a reminder for her every few minutes...FOR HOURS ON END! By the end of day three, I don't know I will be able to say anything BUT that sentence. Ha! She had tinkled in her panties and drizzled on the carpet a bit, so I didn't know how much was left. I really wanted her to go before I put her down, and in fact, we had JUST come from the bathroom one minute before. I was running the sink to get some hot water to wet my wash cloth so I could wipe her down and then I heard it. The most joyous sound: a true steady-flow of tinkle!!!! I'm telling you, I raised the roof! I was jumping and clapping and singing her praises in that moment. Laney started laughing at me with this HUGE grin as she watched her crazy Mama from the potty seat. She knew I was SO proud of her, and I told her so!!! I covered her face with kisses, hugged her and then let her pour her bucket full of pee-pee into the big potty. We said bye-bye and waved goodbye to good 'ol pee-pee. Then she reached to flush it and she just kept waving. Oh, I was so stink'n excited!!! I slid on a fresh, DRY pair of cotton Dora panties and laid her down for night-night. She is still dry, which is AMAZING. I don't expect her to wake up dry, but hey...if she does, that's amazing!!

I will have more stories to come, so stay posted!

p.s. I forgot to mention: I asked Hugh to roll out our plastic to cover our two new rugs from the pee-pee episodes, and that's just what he did. so we're having to tread lightly and slowly over this plastic. I know I'm going to bust it before day three arrives!!

Okay, first of all...love the bread making post. You've got a great little helper there.
Now potty training...I'm all ears to what works for you. My little fella is just not so interested. He's doing pretty good but considering he just turned THREE I'm feeling we should be there by now. I've always heard boys are slower than girls. We're not doing pull ups and sticking to our guns on the underwear, but it really doesn't bother him that he pees and poops in his underwear. Ahh!! What's a mama to do?? I'm guessing when he's ready it'll happen and until then, we'll still be cleaning out underwear :) Good luck with your journey!
