Hugh, Laney and I just got back last night from our trip to the mountains of North Carolina. Hugh's family has a mountain house and it was our frist time up there with Laney, so we took some friends with us and headed West. We had a GREAT time. Traveling 4 hours is one thing, but traveling with a baby is a WHOLE different story. The friends that went with us have a 9 month old(Sammy), so Laney was able to play with someone her own size for a few days. There will be MANY pictures to come.
To answer some questions about wool: No, babies don't get hot in wool, because it breathes, whereas disposibles or polyester/synthetic diaper covers don't at all. Now, if I put Laney in a "longie" in the summer, well...I'm sure she'd be hot simply because they are pants, but if I put her in a soaker or a shortie or even capris, she'd be so cool. For example, while up at the mountains, we took a little hike to see some waterfalls. It was a pretty warm day, and I knew Laney would be in our Ergo carrier as we walked, so I put her soakers on her, so she'd be cool. And she was cool. She was all pressed up next to her Mommy and Daddy, so I'm sure that was a bit warm, but her face didn't get red or overheat at all. In fact, she fell asleep and was so comfortable. It was great!!
(The hood is part of the Ergo to keep her head from bobbing around.)
The night before we left for the mountains, I stayed up late making Laney a pair of longies for the winter from my shrunk, purple Gap sweater. I made them long b/c she'll be a bit longer come Winter and I like them long. :) Cuffing the bottoms is also very popular. I was VERY pleased with these longies. I still have yet to put elastic in them, so it'll fit even better once I do. I experimented with a few additions (tailored-ribbed waist, darts in the buttocks area, longer, etc.) and it worked out great!
(below) I also have a few more soakers now for Laney that I just got in from buying off of diaperswappers.com for such a great price.
If you have any old wool sweaters that you don't want or that you accidentally washed incorrectly and shrunk it, I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to take those off your hands. Please let me know if you are cleaning out your winter closet! Thanks!
Some forgotten pics from a few weeks ago when Caleb & Kimberly Holland and the Carsons went out to eat Mexican! Mmmm!!!
Gradually, Caleb is warming up to the idea of being a Papi one day! LOL! We keep telling them both how AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME it is having a baby! The first few months are ABSOLUTELY CRAZY, but then it gets so amazingly fun...I just can't believe how awesome it is being a Mommy!
