6 months today!!! 24 weeks!

WOW! I'm in awe that I'm six months today!! At my last doctor's appointment a few weeks ago, my doctor told me that all the doctors had agreed to move my due date up 5 days! Can you believe it?! I am now December 11th instead of December 16th.

The reason is because when I first called in that I received a positive on a home pregnancy test, according to my cycle, she was to be due on December 11th. However, at the first ultrasound(at 6 weeks), she measured a few days behind that, so they made my due date December 16th. BUT at my last appointment, they moved my due date back to December 11th, because when they measured her at the second ultrasound (when we found out we were having a girl), she was MUCH bigger than expected. So...she must have caught up in the time between. That gives me so much more comfort, because I always thought I was bigger in the belly. And it gives me more comfort concerning my weight gain. :) Thus, I am six months today!

Even more amazing is that my baby girl looks like this inside my belly!!!

She's growing steadily, gaining about a quarter of a pound since last week, when she was just over a pound. Since she's almost a foot long, that makes a pretty lean figure. But her body is filling out proportionally and she'll soon put on more baby fat.

Her skin is thin, translucent, and wrinkled, her brain is growing rapidly, and her taste buds are developing. Her lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" and cells that produce surfactant, a substance that helps the air sacs inflate easily.

The top of my uterus (where my baby is) is now an inch or so above my belly button, which means it's about the size of a soccer ball. WOW!!!! Can you believe it?! I'm definitely scratching my belly all the time!!!

At my next appointment, I will have a glucose screening test (also called a glucose challenge test or GCT) .This test checks for gestational diabetes, a high-blood-sugar condition during pregnancy. Untreated, high blood sugar increases your risk for having a difficult vaginal delivery or needing a cesarean section because it causes your baby to grow overly fat, especially in his upper body. It also increases your baby's risk for complications like low blood sugar at birth. I was so thirsty in my first trimester, that I began to wonder if I had gestational diabetes. We'll see!

Please pray that I will get a clean bill of health. Thanks!
