pinky toes....who needs 'em?

And we have yet another toe story. Mercy, if I hit my pinky toes one more time, I think they are going to be cocked sideways forever. For you to understand the story to its fullest, I have to set the scene.
Photobucket - Video and Image HostingHugh's Aunt was so generous to lend us her grandbaby's bassinet. It's absolutely precious! At the bottom are four wheels, and it rocks too, so the feet curve up a little bit. The wheels can be tucked away if you want to rock your sweet, precious babe. So, there I was just about to slip my shoes on and head out the door to work. When all of a sudden I feel the worst pain that I've felt in quite some time on my left pinky toe. There was a HUGE bang when my foot crashed into one of the feet that was sticking out, so much that I scared the daylights out of Daisy who was just snoozing inches away. Of course, I started breathing heavy, squinching my eyes, and grunting (you know the pain). Hugh was ....should I say "busy"....at the back of the house, but heard the crash. He heard the crash, as well as my painful moanings. I had fallen into the recliner so I could let the pain pass,...but it was NOT passing!!!!!!!!!!

Hollie! Are you okay??

Silence.

Hollie.....What happened? Are you okay?????

(a bare whisper)...yee...eah.

What happened?

Silence (I just couldn't talk).

I sat there blinking away watery eyes, thinking I was a whimp for tearing up. You know the story....it hurts like crazy and you think you're toe is hanging on for dear life, but then you look at it and there's nothing there to represent your pain. Well, not this time. I sat up, took a deep breath and looked down at the toe. There was blood already on the rug and it kept coming out. So, I felt validated. Although it upset me more, I felt validated!! Finally, after all those hits, I have real proof.

I limped my way to the bathroom, leaving a trail of blood behind me. After examining it further, I had pulled part of my toenail off and had cut the skin in a "u" shape to the left of the toenail. Oh, I was upset. When Hugh was able to come out and see what had happened, all he saw was a trail of blood. That kinda scared him. He was sooo sweet! He took really good care of me, cleaned up my toe, checked for debris, and bandaged me up for the day. See, I can't bend over easily now that I'm getting bigger, so he was indeed a great help in many ways. He's going to be SUCH a great daddy!!!

So, that happened Monday morning and here we are on Friday morning. It's still VERY sore, but I think it's healing up nicely. However, I looked at it yesterday and it's black now. The skin that was cut is now black. I don't know if that means that the skin was never able to revive itself or that it's healing, but we're keeping a close eye on it for infection. The toenail on the other hand is still very loose and wiggles. I'm pretty sure it will fall off eventually. Even though My wound made me validated, I'm not sure I would want this kind of validation again!!

Girl, you sure do have the toe jams don't you!! I'm really sorry, but I am really laughing right now:) Not to mention that you are such a great story teller, I feel like I was right by you during yet ANOTHER toe jam episode.
