More doo-dads

Here are a few more things I've been sewing lately. These two bibs were for my friend Andi at her baby shower. They are big baseball fans, so the first one (my actual first bib I've ever made) was a baseball theme. Looking back, I should have kept the first one because I learned so much from my mistakes that I made, but I was on a time crunch, so I sent it with the gift. The second bib has a traveling theme with suitcases and a world pattern. They are backed with flannel, so they are very absorbant.

This second bib is so much better, since I learned so much with making the first one.

Along with the bibs, I made Andi a nursing cover. I tried to pick a pattern that wasn't too girly (pink & purples, flowers & butterflies) since she's having a boy(Judah is his name), but also something that wasn't fishing poles and deer antlers either.

And lastly, a little gift for myself. Being the bag lover that I am, this little artsy clutch is perfect for the diaper bag, holding only my essentials. I laid the cd on top just so you see the actual size of it. This pattern makes me so happy, because it has all of my favorite colors in it: greens, turquoise, flowers, and shades of brown. It makes me excited for warm weather!

I'm actually going to replace the button with a big tan button. I'll repost the updated one when I sew it on soon.
People ask me all the time how I have time to blog and sew. The way I look at it, you'll always find time for the things you love (except for when you just had a baby!). Secondly, sewing happens only when Laney is asleep, usually after she hits the sack at 7:00. Hugh is either playing basketball, studying or working, so I've got to do something to satisfy my creative drive and since I can't leave the house, sewing is perfect. Don't get me wrong, I have my fav t.v. shows at night after Laney is downtr(American Idol, Flip that house, Jon & Kat + 8, Dancing with the Stars) and a lot of times I'll do both at the same time, esp during commericals to get the most out of my evening. Okay, off the soap box now and on to more delicious topics.....
Like homemade applesauce!! MMMMMMMM!!!!!!!! Talk about good, and it's sooo easy.

Just peel(although I didn't peel my apples until after they cooked), slice, put in a pot with a two inches of water and simmer for 30 minutes or so(longer if you have more apples). Be sure to keep it covered. After simmering, put them in your blender or food processor and there ya have it..fresh applesauce to put in your oatmeal in the morning. There are so many ways to make applesauce though. Next I'll try to put them in the crock pot. Has anybody out there used the crock pot? Oh and this is a great way to make your home smell soooo good!!

Hollie, you little creative-sewing-devil, you! Those projects look great. I bet your friend won't want to get food or spit-up on those bibs; they're so darn cute. And that nursing cover - sigh. It's beautiful. I'm still using and loving mine - it's holding up great. I really like the clutch too, very sweet.

(Good choice of cd as well.)

Ooh, I'm just itching to get my sewing machine out. I have to make myself steer clear of the fabric department these days - I'm addicted. I should to send you pics of the apron I made, though.

I'm sooo glad you're using and loving the gift I sent.

Thanks for the inspiration!!

Shannon

AWESOME stuff my friend! I can't wait to see more. I am so impressed. The apple sauce, I always use the crockpot and put it on high for the first 2 hours and then low the rest of the day.. it takes about 6 or so hours and it will be all ready to eat after that time. I think I stir it a few times during the day. It will be brown and VERY yummy!
