Visit from old friends

I am SO thankful for friendships that last over distances and time. I am thankful for the Hime family and the blessing of this special friendship.

Laney and Katie, when they were around 15 months, would have weekly playdates at each other's house to develop a sweet friendship, as well as give one Mommy a break for a few hours. Looking back I am so thankful for that investment. A special friendship has budded and remained constant through the years. 

Now Laney and Katie are almost five and four and still love each other dearly.  And I am so thankful for the friendship Gi and I have developed over the years. We have common interests, children close in age, and enjoy each others' company so much.

A few days ago they took a roadtrip down to see us in SC. Laney got a cold and developed a fever the very day they were supposed to travel down. After many tears and disappointed hearts, we postponed the trip one day to see if the fever would break. Thankfully, it did and the Hime family (minus Justin) hopped in the car and drove down.

When it was time to say goodbye, we asked Owen to give Mattie a hug. Although no words were exchanged, here's how it went down:

Pic 1: Owen: "First, I can't give you a hug while you're holding this rake. Let me take your rake please."
Mattie: I'm a lady in waiting and will wait for you as long as it takes.

Pic 2:

Owen: Done! Okay, now that I've dropped the rake really far away,

I'm on my way back to give you a hug.

Mattie: I will wait on the hill for you, my little muscle man.
