New Products

I wanted to share with you these new products, Promised Land Half & Half and Heavy Whipping Cream, that I just started using. What I like about these is that they are NOT ultra-pasteurized. When milk or cream is ultra-pasteurized, everything beneficial is completely wiped out. In fact, until you open it, ultra-pasteurized milk does not even need to be refrigerated. It can sit on your pantry shelf until you are ready to drink it. Is that crazy or what? Why? Because pasteurization destroys all enzymes.
In Nourishing Traditions, a very informative cookbook, the author Sally Fallon says "in fact, the test for successful pasteurization is the absence of enzymes. These enzymes help the body assimilate all bodybuilding factors, including calcium." She permits milk that just pasteurized, although raw dairy is preferred; However, she NEVER recommends any ultra-pasturized milk/cream. There's also more information concerning why ultra-pasturized products should be avoided entirely. Read "The Untold Story of Milk" if you'd like more information. I have yet to read it, but some of my friends have read it and have told me some things that they have learned. For example, the method used to ultra-pasteurize milk: flash heating. All I know is that it is very harmful for your body, changes even the molecules of the milk and is a cause for cancer. I don't like to even bring up information that I'm not qualified to expound upon, so I should stop here. If you've read that book, share with us a little bit about this. There's a whole BOOK of information dedicated to milk. In the meantime, if you want pasturized half-&-half for your coffee or heavy-whipping cream, head to Harris Teeter to buy Promised Land products. If you don't live in NC, just look for the brand "Promised Land." It's NOT organic, but at least it's not ultra-pasturized.

I also wanted to share with you these super-cool measuring cups that I bought at Harris Teeter. They flip in and out, making two different measuring cups. For example, one side is 1/3 cup and if you flip it the other way, it's a 2/3 cup. It's pretty cool. They also look cool. If you are low on space, look for these. The brand is Trudeau.

Those measuring cups are in my stocking!!! :) Do you have any idea how annoying it is that I can't use them?! haha! :)

We found them at Linens & Things on super clearance since they're going out of business.

I'll live vicariously through your picture until Christmas morning :)

We like all things Promised Land. We buy the milk, and LOVE the eggnog. I also love that they include scripture right on the container. It's just refreshing to me. Try the eggnog; it's delicious!
