S'mo pics

Laney and I were playing and using sidewalk chalk outside yesterday evening before her bath-time. She is so into drawing these days. I just bought Laney her very first coloring book and box of crayons. I bought her the "basic of the all basic" coloring books without all the busyness. Those are really hard to find. She used to eat the crayons, so I waited until she was ready to start really USING crayons. As Hugh mentioned today, I'm sure we'll have those sweet refrigerator coloring pictures up before we know it.

Here's Laney all sweaty and chalky. I just love candids.

I wonder from whom Laney picked up this habit. Hmm..... I'm still trying to figure out how to use our smaller camera, as it has different settings for different picture taking needs. I can't seem to find the charger for our bigger camera. Oh I miss it so much! The picture below is fun blurry though. It bears a dreamy effect. Yeah, I did it on purpose. (wink, wink)

The other day I heard Laney run to the back of the house. When I walked in the back to see as to her whereabouts, this was what I saw. In the BLINK of an eye, she was up on this stool trying to be like Momma and Daddy. She can climb in a chair in less than a second. It's crazy. I, at first, told her she could get up in a chair as long as she sat on her bottom. She didn't like that too much, but finally she started to sit on her bottom more times than not. And although she does a fine job of sitting on her hiney now, She's just not careful enough in knowing her parameters as to how far she can lean when she's up in the chair and experiments too much as to different ways to get down. So, she's just now getting the hint that it's a no-no to climb in the chairs.

My friend Gi gave me her recipe. I'd like to make them a bit more crispy in my next batch. Laney absolutely LOVES them. Recipe below:

Graham Crackers

Preheat oven to 375

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 stick softened butter
  • 1/3 cup 100% pure maple syrup
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 - 1 tsp cinnamon (preference)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 4 Tbsp cream
  1. Blend the first two ingredients (for a while)
1/2 stick softened butter
1/3 cup 100% pure maple syrup

2. Add the other ingredients, but just moisten (do not overbeat)

2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 - 1 tsp cinnamon (preference)
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
4 Tbsp cream

3. Press down into 13 x 9 pan and an 8 x8 pan if you want thinner crackers. If you want the crackers to be thicker, use just the 13 x 9 or one slightly bigger.

4. Cut before baking and prick each cracker.

5. Bake for 10 minutes (Next time I'll bake longer to make them crispier.)

Enjoy!!!!!!!!

Uh, that was me, SHANNON who asked for the recipe. AND, I also wanted to mention that if you have a cup of water outside when you do sidewalk chalk, and dip the chalk in the water before drawing, it has a totally different and more vibrant look. We learned this when I was watering the plants one day. Have fun!

Wow I love the idea of making your on graham crackers! Do you think I could substitute water for the cream but just use less? All I can get here is ultra-pastuerized and I really don't want to use that.

Krista,
Hm..not sure. Why not try coconut cream that's canned. That would be delicious and is a great substitute for whole milk and cream since it's comparable in the fat and calories that we need.
