Here's an update I received this morning from Uncle Robert and Aunt Angelia, Hugh's Aunt & Uncle:
Thank you all for your prayers. I just want to give you an update. Edward is still alive -- praise God!!!! He was airlifted last night from UNC Chapel Hill to Georgetown University Hospital in Washington DC because their insurance will only pay for a transplant at two hospitals in the eastern United States -- one in Florida and then Georgetown in DC. The doctor at UNC told us that if it were her child she would want them to be at Georgetown because they have a great liver transplant team. We spent the night with my brother in NC last night and will be driving to Washington DC this morning. We did have some encouraging news last night just before we left the hospital -- the doctor told us that in her opinion she thinks things are leaning now toward a positive outcome. She said he is still in a gray area and that his liver enzymes are still climbing, and he is not clotting properly so they are giving him a coagulant to make him clot. They gave him a couple of bags of plasma yesterday and started him on lasix (sp?) last night to relieve fluids that are building. Please continue to pray for Edward and all of his family as we travel.
Hugh and I were planning on going to see him and the family today, since they are about an hour from us, but now that they are in Washington, D.C., we won't be able to make it out there. Maybe we can provide meals or something when they get home. I wish I was close enough to make them breakfast biscuits, which are easy to transport or just some HEALTHY snacks. Anyone know of any good ideas to send to people in the hospital that are out of state? I know that Edible Arrangements are nice. Any other ideas? I'm going to try to get an address and room number, so any of you are interested in sending him anything to brighten his day and let him know you're praying for him, that would be SO NICE! Maybe your children could draw him a sunny picture to put in his hospital room and send a picture of your family smiling. Any other fun ideas??
Thank you all for caring so much for someone whom you've never even met. What compassion!

Praise God! We're all still praying.
Great report! As far as what you can do...after my Dad spent several months in the hospital (most in the ICU - which is where I'm guessing your cousin is) I know that they usually don't allow flowers or food to be sent to the rooms. In ICU that is. Cards and pics are fine though- he had lots of those!
One thing that was helpful for my Mom was restaurant gift cards. The hospital cafeteria can get old after a while and the cost of eating out so much can add up! Just a thought...also - if they are staying in a hotel, you can always send food to the hotel and not the hospital I guess! We'll keep praying!
Christina,
I didn't know that about ICU. Super! Thanks for the tips!
I've also had a friend tell me that envelopes already stamped were a huge help when they were trying to pay bills.
We'll keep praying. Edward was heavy on my heart last night, and I'll just keep lifting him up all day today.
I was also gonna say that I've heard that gift cards are GREAT!
