Raise your hand if you can whistle using your hands or without using your hands. ( I'm raising MY hand!!!) Say "I" if you think learning how to whistle really loudly is worth the effort? (IIIII) Say "I" if people in your office are looking at your strangely? (LOL!)
I remember the day like as if it was yesterday when I learned how to whistle using my hands. It was my freshman year in college, and I was on a mission trip with Clemson's FCA to Kentucky. We were in one of those awesome forever-long, pull-your-hair out, crazy, loud, sticky air-ed trips where everyone and all their luggage is crammed into this 15 passenger van. Whistling came up so I begged one of the guys to teach me how to whistle for I had ALWAYS wanted to learn. It was one of my life goals. (Looking back on that trip, I feel sorry for the driver of our van.) After hours of spitting all over my hands and face, feeling light headed and spikes of high blood pressure from frustration, I finally was able to produce a little squeaky whistle. That little sound was fuel to my little flame...now I had a fire on my hands(this is where I feel sorry for the driver or chaperones of our trip. College kids...gotta love 'em!) I mean, I was a whistling machine!! I had conquered one of my life goals people!!!!!! I was fit to be tied! I whistled fo-eva and my whistle started to get louder and stronger until finally I truly sounded like a pro. The bad part of it all was that I had to keep putting my dirty hands in my mouth. Yuck! But really, to be able to whistle loudly and sharply, starting with the hands method is the best way to go. (Baby steps folks.) But I have yet to conquer my feat of the "Hands-free Whistle."
I have done a little google search'n and have found a great site that teaches you how to whistle. Here's some words of wisdom for you, you gotta be a perseverer to conquer this. This is not something that's going to be born the first time you attempt to this method of whistling. Just a minute ago, I was in my empty classroom during my planning period trying to whistle handsfree(see, teachers have ALL KINDS of fun too! Really, I just don't want to grade or plan right now.) A teacher walked by and asked if I was whistling. With rosy colored cheeks, I admitted to my bouts of whistling!!! I was caught, red-handed!!!!!
I'd like to hear your comments on the following: Can you whistle loudly at all? Would you like to? Can you whistle with hands and w/o hands? How has it come in handy? And BY ALL MEANS.... let US know if conquer this feat of yours!!!!!

Maybe one day I'll be able to say, "Look Mama...No hands!!!!"

Hollie, that sounded like an infomercial for a "Just buy my video and you, too, can learn to whistle loudly?" Ha! You are so funny. I used to be able to whistle pretty good (w/o hands) before I got my braces (a long time ago). I guess ever since then I haven't practiced much. Maybe you've inspired me.
Good Jenny! I hope that I'll get a post from you saying that you've learned how to whistle!!
Oh my word Hollie....do you remember the MANY nights in college when I would have two soggy fingers in my mouth at all times, spit flying in the air, so lightheaded I would have to sit down before falling and me saying "Hollie...teach me, I've got to learn to do this!!!" And then their was that sunny afternoon when we were walking out of Donovan Hall and I let out a squeak of a whistle. I've been whistling ever since!! Those were the days!! Now you've placed a new challenge before me :)
